A Survey On English Reading Instructional Process Design And Implementation In Junior Middle School

In the process of English reading teaching,high-quality reading instructional designs can ensure the effective implementation of reading teaching.Instructional process occupies an important position in the whole reading instructional design.So when English teachers in junior middle school design reading instructional designs,instructional process should be paid more attention.However,in the process of actual reading instructional design and implementation,some problems are still existed.In order to investigate the current situation of design and implementation of English reading instructional process in junior middle school,the author collected and analyzed related researches about reading teaching and instructional process at home and abroad and then put forward the following four research questions:(1)What is English teachers' view of reading instructional process in junior middle schools?(2)What is students' view of English reading learning in junior middle schools?(3)What are the existing problems in designing reading instructional process?(4)What are the existing problems in implementing reading instructional process?In order to analyze and solve the research questions,the author used questionnaires,text analysis and classroom observation to investigate English teachers and students in Jincheng No.12 Middle School,Wangtai Middle School,Yuncheng Lixing Middle School and Gezhi Middle School.The author collected and analyzed 52 teachers' questionnaires,320 students' effective questionnaires and 45 reading instructional designs and observed four English teachers' reading classes from these four different junior middle schools.The major findings are listed as follows: Firstly,from the aspect of English teachers' understanding of reading instructional process,most English teachers believe it is very essential to design instructional process but some of them are used to referring to others and lack of innovation consciousness.Secondly,in terms of students' understanding of English reading learning,most students have a positive attitude to learn English reading but some students lack self-confidence and do not have good reading habits.Thirdly,as for the designing of reading instructional process,most English teachers can design reading instructional process according to PWP reading teaching model.But some English teachers design too many pre-reading activities.While-reading activities lack logicality and hierarchy.The training of a variety of strategies is ignored,which is restricted to some basic skills such as skimming,scanning and intensive reading.Lastly,from the aspect of the implementation of reading instructional process,there is consistency between reading instructional process design and its teaching implementation.But the time teachers spend for lead-in is too long.Some English teachers cannot well handle the transition of each stage and teaching links naturally and consistently.And they pay too much attention to language knowledge and lack the profound analysis of the text.The interaction effects among students are not very good in some teachers' reading classes.Based on the analysis and discussion of English teachers' reading instructional process design and implementation in junior middle schools,the author put forward some pedagogical suggestions from design,implementation and post-implementation,through which the author hopes to help English teachers in junior middle school design high-quality reading instructional process so as to improve students' reading efficiency in English class.
