| English is an important tool of international communication.It comes from the Indo-European language family and is widely used in the fields of economy,politics,science and technology and culture in today’s world.It is not only an important carrier for spreading the achievements of human civilization,but also provides an important way for China to reach out to the world,promotes the world’s understanding of China,and contributes to build a community with a shared future of humans.The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards have been updated in 2022,and the curriculum reform of quality-oriented education has entered a new era to fully implement educational policy of the Party and carry out the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people.Subject education in schools is facing new requirements and challenges under new concepts.The primary school English curriculum is regarded as the cornerstone of students’ lifelong English learning,and there are new changes in the requirements of talent training.According to the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022edition),the goal for third and fourth graders in elementary school is to be interested and motivated in learning English.The goal for fifth and sixth graders in elementary school is to have a strong interest and confidence in learning English.[English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education,Beijing Normal University Press,2022 edition,page 10] In primary school English teaching,there are some phenomena that students are tired of English classes,have no interest in English learning and think English is "useless".So,what is the interest of primary school students in learning English at present? What are the reasons for the status quo? What are the strategies to promote primary school students’ interest in English learning? Does the use of strategies to enhance pupils’ interest in English learning influence their academic performance?In this study,the author collected relevant data on the theme of "interest in primary school English learning",including works on "interest",journals and doctoral dissertations on "interest in Primary School English" as the search engine on "CNKI" platform.Through literature review,the author sorted out the function of interest,the role of interest in learning,and the role of interest in English learning.In order to understand the current situation of G Primary school’s English learning interest,the author made an online questionnaire on the network platform "Wenjuanxing" to investigate the students in the fourth grade of G Primary School and their parents.Based on the data feedback from the survey platform,the author found out the problems existing in G Primary school students’ English learning interest.That is,"fewer students are very interested in English" and "Students’ interest in English is limited to learning in class".Looking at the essence through the phenomenon,the author analyzes from the aspects of individual psychological factors,family education and social environment,school education and so on,and puts forward the strategies that can enhance students’ interest in learning.In order to verify the effectiveness of the strategy,the author designed an experiment to compare the English learning interest and English level of students in the experimental class before and after the implementation of the strategy.By comparing the data of two questionnaire surveys of students’ interest in English learning,the experimental class students’ interest in English activities,English subjects and English classes has been improved.Among them,interest in English activities increased by 28.3%,showing a significant improvement.Secondly,the interest in English increased by 19.6%,and finally,the interest in English increased by 6.5%.In the comparison of the data of English proficiency test,the average score of the class,the pass rate and the eugenics rate were all improved compared with that before the experiment.According to the experimental data feedback,we can conclude that by implementing the strategies proposed by the author,such as cultivating students’ positive learning attitude,making good use of good learning methods,improving students’ ability level and making use of teachers’ expectation effect,students’ interest in English learning can be improved.By enhancing students’ interest in English learning,students can improve their English scores and improve their English level. |
