Abstract/Summary:
Under the background of the modern educational reforms,affective education has become one of the concentrations in the research field of quality-oriented education,where students’ attitude to and interest in learning are highly valued.It is considered that the experience and expression of emotion by teachers and students contribute to positive classroom climate,and positive classroom atmosphere can enhance students’ motivation and greater engagement to learn.In recent years,there emerge studies of teacher emotional competence,and how different indexes of teacher affect impact students’ learning motivation is gaining more and more attention in the research field of educational practice.Based on Roger’s Humanistic Psychology and Krashen’s Affective Filter Hypothesis,the thesis takes Xi’an XX International School as a case.Through questionnaire,classroom observation and interview,the following questions are focused:(1)What kind of aspects of English teachers’ affective factors have an impact on primary school students’ learning interest?(2)How does the affective performance of different English teachers influence the students’ learning interest?The questionnaire was delivered to 120 students in Grade Three to investigate how teacher affect in class can influence students’ learning interest in English.Finally,the relevant suggestions were put forward by combining two teachers’ classroom practice(one experienced teacher,the other a novice teacher)for three-month non-participant observation and interviews to collect data on affect performance and strategy.The results from the collected data indicate that(1)teachers’ emotional control,reflection of affective teaching style and attitudes towards classroom feedback can influence students’ learning interest,which can be reflected in students’ attitudes towards English learning,in-class participation and after-class participation;(2)teachers’ positive affect promotes students’ learning interest,whereas,teachers negative affect does otherwise.When a teacher successfully keeps students in a stable and enthusiastic mood,students’ interest is increased.At the same time,a loving and caring teacher can arouse students’ respect,admiration,love as well as interest in English learning...
