This is a report on the translation of Chapters 8,9 and 10 of the book entitled Passion and Addiction in Sports and Exercise,co-authored by Attila Szabo and Zsolt Demetrovics. The book consists of 17 chapters, helping readers understand exercise addiction better and clearing up some conceptual ambiguities and methodological weaknesses in exercise addiction research.Chapters 8,9 and 10 are selected as the source text of this translation report. The three chapters address three topics: exercise deprivation, addiction and dependence, which may help readers to have a deeper understanding of exercise addiction in different aspects. The source text is analyzed from three levels in the report. At the lexical level, the translation difficulty lies in the translation of terminologies and prepositions. At the syntactic level, complex sentences set challenges for the translator. At the textual level, cohesive devices should be taken into consideration so as to make the translation coherent.During the translation process, the translator translated the source text under the guidance of the communicative translation put forward by Peter Newmark, making every attempt to reproduce the contents and effects of the source text faithfully and accurately.Case Analysis focuses on the translation of terminologies and prepositions.Conversion, division and inversion are used to make sentences more understandable and cohesive devices are used to improve the consistency of the translation.Through this translation project, the translator has learned a great deal not only in the knowledge about exercise addition and psychology, but also in some related translation theories and translation practice skills, which will be helpful to the translation studies and practices in the future.
