Recently,China Securities Registration and Settlement Co.,Ltd.released the latest data–the number of investors in the stock market has reached 200,008,700.However,several investigations found that the current Chinese people’s wealth management consciousness,wealth management concept and wealth management level cannot meet the requirements of the financial investment market.Therefore,from the perspective of the financial text,the translator excerpts four representative chapters of The Psychology of Money for translation.On the one hand,the foreign wealth management experience is conveyed through translation to provide some guidelines for Chinese investors;On the other hand,this report discusses the feasibility of the theory of Peter Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation to guide the translation practice of financial texts,trying to analyze the problems that should be paid attention to in Chinese and English translation of financial texts.As a kind of non-literary translation,the translation of financial text not only has the typical characteristics of non-literary translation but also has its unique characteristics: first,the language used is highly specialized;second,there are many charts and tables;third,the sentence structure is more complex,using of long sentences;fourth,the language is rigorous.According to Newmark’s text typology,The Psychology of Money belongs to the informative text,and its genre belongs to the argumentative essay,and the subject matter belongs to finance,which also involves psychology,history and other aspects of knowledge.In this way,the translation of the book fits well with the semantic translation theory to underscore the accuracy expression of the informative text.In addition to the characteristics mentioned above of the financial text,the book also has abundant slang and lingo,which is more suitable for analysis using the communicative translation theory to not only realize the informative function but also highlight the readability of the translation.This translation practice report uses specific cases analysis method to explain the purpose of translation from the semantic and communicative translation perspective.It is hoped that through the reflection and summary of this translation task,the sublimation from theoretical reason to theoretical sensibility then to practical sensibility can be achieved,thus broadening the scope of theoretical interpretation.At the same time,the report can provide some reference for the research of the financial text translation practice.
