| The source text of the translation project is the seventh and eighth chapters of Fragile Power: Why Having Everything Is Never Enough,which is an informative text on mental health.Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 are mainly about addiction treatment.Through his own clinical and consulting experiences,the author exposes the internal battles of upscale and privileged individuals.He reminds people that happiness is an inside job and the outside elite power doesn’t guarantee it.He hopes that the people with elite power could feel seen and understood,that the professionals who work with this distinct population could get effective skills and insights,and that the normal people could understand those people and see that the fragility inherent in power often destroys the very things they believe it will provide.In general,the selected chapters belong to science popularizing text and the language is vivid.In the translation process,the translator must fully understand the source text,convey the ideas of the source text and achieve the communicative purpose.There are a lot of polysemous words,linked synonyms and culture-loaded expressions in the source text.In view of this,based on Newmark’s communicative translation,the author mainly elaborates on the translation of polysemous words,juxtaposed synonyms and culture-loaded words and technical terms in the translation case analysis,using free translation,literal translation plus annotation and other methods,while taking professional dictionaries and parallel texts as references. |
