| The thesis is a report on the E-C translation of Grandpa’s Mountain(Chapter 8 to Chapter 14).As a children’s historical novel,this book tells a vivid story an eleven-year-old girl Carrie makes her annual summer visit to her grandparents in the Blue Ridge Mountains.During the visit,she watches her determined grandfather fight against the government’s attempt to take his farmland for a new national park during the Depression.According to the translator’s knowledge,there is no Chinese translation is available in the market.The language of Grandpa’s Mountain is easy but vivid and interesting,and it contains a lot of daily conversations,which makes it easy to shorten the distance from the target readers.Because of the particularity of the target readers,the translator needs to pay attention to the acceptance of them and adopt some ways to increase their interest.Dialogues play an important role in furthering the plot and demonstrating the personality of characters.How to keep the original flavor of the source text during the dialogue translation is still a problem to be solved.Under the guidance of the Reception Aesthetics,this report mainly analyzes the techniques and strategies adopted during the translation of the dialogues in children’s literature,based on the concepts of“horizon of expectation” and “the indeterminacy of the text”,the translator adopts several methods to keep the vividness of the translation,such as the use of sentence-final particles,the translation of interjections,and use of colloquial words etc.From the syntactic level,the translator uses the methods of division and reorganization of the sentences and omission of pronouns to keep the simplicity of the translation.During the process,the translator needs to keep the vacancy appropriately,taking the acceptance of the target readers into consideration,while leaving space for readers’ imagination,thus stimulating their reading interest.The application of Reception Aesthetics to the translation practice provides a new understanding for the translator,and a more thorough and accurate comprehension of the demand of child readers.Meanwhile,the translator has a deeper understanding of dialogue translation,and the translator expects the above translation methods can inspire the following translation practice. |
