This translation practice report is based on the novel Dog Song.In the field of children’s literature,Gary Paulsen,a writer of American literature in the 20 th century,played a decisive role.His masterpiece Dog Song has not only the interest of children’s literature but also the heavy texture of serious literature.Translating it into Chinese is of great significance for the accumulation of children’s knowledge and culture in our country.This novel belongs to children’s literature works.So words should be simple,lively and interesting and sentences should be easily accepted by children.The author encountered some difficulties in the process of translation.The first is in terms of vocabulary,there are many regional vocabularies and according to the situation,many words need translate to new meanings;the second is the long sentences in the syntactical level.How to make the translation simple and full of fun is the biggest problem for the author.This translation practice report is guided by the theory of Reception Aesthetics,which emphasizes on the role and expectations of readers.Under the guidance of this theory,the author discusses the difficulties in both field of lexical and syntactical with translation cases and proposes corresponding methods and techniques such as literal translation,free translation,and amplification.When translating,the author not only expresses the content of the novel and the author’s thoughts and feelings,but also focuses on the readers,chooses languages that are easy to understand and childlike to avoid the obscure parts of the translation,and makes the translation easier to accept.The author hopes that this translation report will provide some references for the translation of children’s literature.
