Error analysis has always been an important subject of foreign Chinese teaching.Although the study of Chinese character writing errors started a little late,so far scholars have carried out a lot of research on written errors from the perspective of learner’s country, mother tongue,Chinese proficiency and so on.However,we found that there are still some shortcomings in current research on this field.Firstly, many studies have insufficient identification of linguistics data as "mistake" or "error".The second is that the combing and calculation on errors only focus on individual and pay less attention to group.Third, the assessment method of errors is relatively simple, focusing only on the rate of errors and lacking the assessment of the degree of offensiveness. In view of the above problems, this thesis focused on the Chinese character writing errors of international students, and analyzed the errors and proposed countermeasures from a more comprehensive perspective. In the first part,on the basis of the meticulous identification of the collected linguistics data, this thesis started from the three levels of stroke, radical, and character. Then we subdivided errors into fourteen sub-categories,and counted and analyzed them by categories. In terms of quantity, the errors of stroke reduction and inter-strokes relationship are more prominent, the errors of inappropriate stroke length, loose structure, homophone and shape-similar are less.At the same time,we combed and analyzed the group errors, and found that the number of group errors is basically proportional to the number of each error categories. The errors of stroke reduction and wrong inter-strokes relationship are still the most. And we also found some more prominent problems that the character "Zhi" and "Zhen" of stroke reduction errors, the "Qi" of structural deformation errors and the "Yi" of shape-similar errors have occurred more than 10 times. In the second part,we randomly selected 70 error characters and conducted an acceptability survey on 203 native Chinese speakers to evaluate the degree of offence of each category. We found that the top three acceptability are loose structure, stroke replacement and structural deformation, and their average class acceptability is above the mean value of 3,the three categories with the lowest acceptability are radical reduction, radical replacement and stroke reduction, and their average class acceptability is below 2.Whether it changes the number of strokes and parts of Chinese characters and affected the integrity of Chinese characters is an important factor affecting the acceptability. The study of the degree of offence of error character not only provided a reference for us to understand and compare errors from a more comprehensive perspective, but also gave assistance for Chinese character teaching and errors correction. Finally, according to the error performance, students’ learning background, teachers’ teaching methods and feedback,we explored the causes of errors from the aspects of objective and subjective. It is mainly reflected in the following five aspects:first, the complexity of Chinese characters;second, the influence of printing on students’ writing;third, the shortcomings of teaching materials;fourth, the problems of foreign students in learning attitude and learning methods;fifth, teachers’ deficiencies in teaching. Then, according to the performance and causes of errors, this thesis put forward some practical improvement strategies from the perspective of teaching philosophy and teaching practice, mainly including grading the wrong words, paying attention to writing demonstration, establishing students’ writing files and so on.We expected that this thesis can provide some reference to the Chinese character teaching and learning.
