Research On Chinese Character Course And Chinese Character Ability For International Students Majoring In Teaching Chinese To Speakers Of Other Languages

Last several years,"Chinese Upsurge" has become a boom in the world,and the number of people learning Chinese in various countries is gradually increasing.Therefore,many countries have also established many Confucius Institutes to teach Chinese language,and this upsurge is still heating up.So with the "Chinese Upsurge" and the rapid development of the economy of China,more and more students are studying in China.Accordingly,the number of foreigners who want to come to China and study Chinese language is also increasing.Therefore,there are many schools and universities which have specially established "Chinese International Education" major to train Chinese students and international students to engage in Chinese language teaching around the world,and then spread the beautiful Chinese Culture.But many colleges and universities are still not rigorous in teaching Chinese characters to foreigners.So In the process of training Chinese learners,they often ignore the foreigner student’s ability to write Chinese characters,which makes their writing skills insufficient.In terms of setting classes,we discover that many colleges and universities in Xi’an doesn’t have independent Chinese character writing class and Chinese character culture class.Moreover,all of Chinese teachers knows that the knowledge of foreigner students about Chinese character culture and their writing skills are not much enough to take the position as Chinese teacher after graduation.The universities knows that all of foreigners who are learning Chinese International Education,need Chinese character culture class and Chinese character writing class to improve them level in knowing Chinese character and strong writing Chinese character as well.But it seems like even the Ministry of Education in China doesn’t pay attention of those two classes which are extremely important to improve the skills of foreigner students in knowing and writing Chinese characters.In order to make a good investigation,we have selected four famous universities in Xi’an such as Shaanxi Normal University,Xi’an International Studies University,Xi’an Petroleum University,and Northwest University.Starting from two aspects of the teaching Chinese characters such as the Chinese Character Culture Class and the Chinese Character Writing Class,and more importantly the course settings about teaching Chinese characters in those four universities were investigated.At the same time,we also start our investigation from the standards of the training objectives of the Chinese International Education Major.The way foreigners students learns Chinese characters,their ability to write Chinese characters,the teacher’s opinion on their ability to write Chinese characters,the student’s opinion on the way universities are teaching Chinese characters to Chinese International Education’s student(foreigners student).We also investigate and analyse whether independently open Chinese character culture classes and Chinese character writing classes.According to the results of our analysis,we discovered that to improve the current situation of Chinese character teaching for postgraduates of Chinese International Education,the universities should follow the bellow aspects:Open independent Chinese character culture courses,and all teachers have to be strict of teaching Chinese character to foreigners and also have to do some encouraging and mandatory work when they are teaching classes,such as ask students to take notes by hand during every classes,give some home works and require handwriting;the school have to holds more pen writing competitions and essay competitions for foreign students,and should open independent Chinese writing classes for helping foreigners to improve their writing skills.
