Li Hualong(1554-1612)was a jinshi in the second year of the Ming Wanli period(1574).He served as the governor of Song County,the director of the Ministry of Public Works in Nanjing,the junior secretary of the Taishu Temple,the governor of Liaodong,the governor of Huguang,Chuan and Gui military affairs and the governor of Sichuan,the right minister of the Ministry of Public Works,and the minister of the Ministry of War.The Fuliao Shu Gho is a compilation of six volumes,of which the first three volumes exist today,with a total of 36 articles,of which 32 are complete,preserving very valuable historical materials of military and political affairs in Liaodong.The surviving fragments of the Fu Liao Shu Gao are of great value to the study of the situation in Liaodong during the Ming dynasty in the mid-Wanli period,but there has not yet been a special study of the Fu Liao Shu Gao in academic circles.This article discusses the authorship,composition,circulation,content and value of the Fu Liao Shu Gao,as well as its tragic destruction in the course of the compilation of the Siku Quanshu.The paper is divided into four parts.The first part describes Li Hualong’s career and personal writings,while the second part introduces the process of writing the Fu Liao Shu Gao,the situation of multiple copies of the book in circulation and its destruction,as well as the errors in the surviving orphaned copies.The third part describes the contents of the surviving portions of the Fu Liao Shu Gao,generally divided into military,official administration,border governance and other four blocks..It is subdivided into three main sections: reporting on war events during his term of office,building armaments,impeaching recommended officials,and regulating postal services.The fourth section analyses Li Hualong’s actions and ideas,as well as the historical value of the surviving portions of the Fu Liao Shu Gao.The fifth part uses the existing data to speculate on the missing part of the play.The surviving three volumes of the fragments preserve important documents relating to Liaodong from the seventh month of the twenty-second year of the Wanli reign to the first month of the twenty-fourth year of the Wanli reign,and are an important source for the study of Liaodong in the Ming dynasty and the achievements of Li Hualong in his patrol of Liaodong.From the surviving scraps of these zhenshu can be seen,Li Hualong then proposed most of the recommendations were adopted to implement,so this scrap also has a certain practical value.
