Liaodong region,also known as the “zhaoguo”,is far-reaching in history.The tombs in this district,which are important relics,could yield more information about the changes happened in Liao dynasty.According to the shapes and structures,there are two categories of the tombs in this area------pit-based and room-shaped tombs.The room-shaped tombs can furthermore be divided into round-,quadrilateral-and polygonal tombs etc.Studying of these different shapes and structures,a survey of phases is conducted.The first phase is marked by the appearance of pit tombs,which is prevalent around the beginning of the tenth century.It reflects greatly the blending of the Khitan race in the Liaodong area.During the reign of Liao Taizu,the Khitan power began to rise in this area.The second phase is more of round-and quadrilateral-shaped tombs.This obvious transformation is derived from the large-scale migration,which happened after the establishment of Liao dynasty during the first twenty years of the tenth century and lasted until the first thirty years in the eleventh century.This third phase is a kind of multi-structures of polygonal shaped tombs,which could attribute to the mass anti-Liao fights and the shift from Liao to Jin dynasties.Through the study of the characterizations reflected in the three phases,a pattern of these tombs can de learnt in the Liaodong region during Liao dynasty.And gives a comprehensive analysis of people's lives and could be helpful to enrich of the Liao dynasty.
