The Phonologic Comperition Between Xinpian Liaodong Yulei And Liaodong Dialect

Content:This thesis is a comparative study of phonology betweenLiaodong dialect (辽东方言) and Xinpian Liaodong Yulei (《新篇辽东语类》:referred to as Liao-yu in this thesis)which is a Chinesetextbook for the Japanese published roughly a century years ago, we willtry to analyze and understand the condition of Liaodong Peninsula'slanguage at the time and its complexity. From the historical point ofview, there is a close relationship between this complexity and themigrations of people to Liaodong Peninsula, and it is this historicalrelationship that is responsible for the varied nature of the contemporaryJiaoliao-Mandarin (胶辽官话)Based on our research of the Liao-yu, we have reached thefollowing conclusion: There is not only a lot of similarities betweenLiao-yu and Jiaoliao-Mandarin in their features regarding the consonantsand the vowels, but there are also many diversity from Jiaoliao-Mandarinor Pekin Mandarin rules. We can't determine whether the cause of this is asound recording ability on Liaodong dialect's or Liaodong dialect'sinternal structure complexity.In the first part, we will try to analyze and the condition ofLiaodong Peninsula's language at the time, based on many predecessor'sresearch achievements for Jiao-Liao Mandarin.In the second part, we willhighlight the situation of publishers and the editors, the specific featuresof the language, the basic phonetic system of Liao-yu etc.In the third part,we will compare Jiao-Liao Mandarin with contemporary Chinese and thelanguage conditions of Liaodong Peninsula as described in this acentury-old textbook. We will mainly analyze the consonant and vowelfeatures in Liao-yu. Because we have not found distinct tone features inLiao-yu, we are unable to fully accomplish the tone analysis ofLiao-yu.In the fourth part, we will compare many predecessor's researchachievements regarding Liao-yu and Jiao-Liao Mandarin, and we willattempt to pinpoint both the similarities and differences between the two. We will mainly refer to F.Luo's The study of Jiao-liao Mandarin (1998)in this part. Finally, we will discuss the reference value of Liao-yu.
