A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Vortex And The Jet:A Journey Into The Beauty And Mystery Of Flight (Chapters1-3)

With the vigorous development of the aviation industry,people’s demand for aviation knowledge is gradually increasing.However the related translation can’t meet the demand.Based on the translation of The Vortex and The Jet,this dissertation reports on the practice process,which mainly introduces the translation process and discusses the translation skills of aviation texts from the perspective of the three-dimensional transformation of Eco-translatology theory,which can expand the practical research of the studies,hoping to provide a reference for relevant translation studies.The source text of this translation practice is extracted from the book The Vortex and The Jet,which is written by Reiner Decher,a professor of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington.This book is a reference book about principles and knowledge related to aviation,which can provide reading materials for people who need to gain professional background of aviation knowledge.The book’s first three chapters are selected for this translation practice,which are about vortex,wing lift and friction.The translation of this part can stimulate readers’ interest and help them understand the most essential part of aviation knowledge.This translation is conducted under the guidance of Professor Hu Gengshen’s Eco-translatology theory.It is mainly based on the three perspectives of language dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension to analyze and translate the source text with adaptive selections.The source text of translation practice is scientific text,so the translation should achieve the goal of accurate vocabulary and clear and concise language.Therefore,adaptive selections of three dimensions are of great help to achieve this goal as well as to improve translation ability and translation quality.In terms of language dimension,conversions of word and passive voice are used to achieve the balance between the source text and the target text.In terms of cultural dimension,paraphrase and four-character structure are used to fill cultural gap and help the translation “survive” in the translation environment.In terms of communicative dimension,communication intention is reflected through the processing of terms and textual cohesion,which can help achieve the overall balance of the translation environment.The last part is a summary of the practice report,which summarizes the findings of translation practice.It puts forward further suggestions,hoping to have a specific reference value for the following research.
