Story After Supper published by The Chinese Literature Press in 1990 is a collection of the English translation of thirteen selected novels of Wang Zengqi. This thesis adopts eco-translatology to investigate the translational eco-environment of Story After Supper, including the source texts, the publishing purposes, the target readers, etc. It selects translation examples from the three dimensions,i.e.linguistic dimension, cultural dimension, and communicative dimension, summarizes translation approaches, and analyzes adaptive selections. The linguistic dimension focuses on the selections to adapt to rhetorical devices and stylistic feature, the cultural dimension deals with adaptive selections of urban folk culture,local-colored culture, and traditional culture, and the communicative dimension analyzes the reproduction of communicative intention from narrative perspective and spatial coherence.Through analysis, this thesis concludes that Story After Supper makes adaptive selections from the three dimensions,i.e.linguistic dimension, cultural dimension, and communicative dimension. However, there are some inappropriate adaptive selections rising from a lack of in-depth understanding of the source texts’ linguistic features, cultural characteristics, and communicative intentions. For future translation or retranslation of Wang Zengqi’s works, all constraints in the translational eco-environment should be better adapted to,especially the source texts’ features from linguistic dimension, cultural dimension, and communicative dimension,so as to produce translations of higher degree of holistic adaptive selections and further promote Chinese culture going abroad.
