With the continuous development of economic globalization, the global tourism industry has ushered in the “spring”.The increase in income has led more and more Chinese people to go abroad to look at the world,at the same time, more international friends have arrived in China for traveling. On the one hand, the rapid development of tourism in various countries broaden the horizon of people from all over the world; On the other hand,it is conducive to deepening the communications between peoples and promoting the development and progress of world culture.Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonmous Region which has many famous scenic spots like Qingxiu Shan Scenic Spot,Daming Mountain,Guangxi Museum and so on,is popular with tourists.Public sign in scenic spots is one of the most common forms of traveling propaganda. As a city card, public signs can be used to convey local culture to foreign friends or non-locals in China, which not only has the instructive and indicative function, but also can restrict the bad behavior of visitors to force them mind their speech and behavior. Therefore,it is vital to make appropriate translation of public signs so that foreign tourists can better understand the local culture by crossing language barriers.Through investigation, the author found that there are many deficiencies in the translation of public signs in Nanning's scenic spots. Therefore, the author will analyze the public signs in Nanning's scenic spots to study their deficiencies and improved methods based on the Eco-translatology theory proposed by Prof.Hu Gengshen who is a well-known Chinese scholar,so as to make full use of this translation theory to guide the English translation of public signs in scenic spots, which has important practical value. This paper is divided into six parts. The first part gives a brief introduction of research background, research significance and purpose.Next, the author will summarize and comment on the previous researches on the Eco-translatology theory and the translation of public signs, namely the literature review. The third part is the theoretical framework adapted bythis research, which is to elaborate the Eco-translatology theory from the aspects of basic concept, core connotation and standard,etc..The fourth and fifth part are the main part of this paper. In the fourth part, the deficiencies of the public signs' translation investigated in Nanning's scenic spots will be summed up and illustrated in three aspects of “linguistic, cultural and pragmatic.” The fifth part will analyze the deficiencies mentioned in the previous part based on “three-dimensional transformation” translation method in Eco-translatology theory,to explore how the translator choose the language to adapt to the culture so that achieve the communication aim, that is to realize the adaptive selections in the three dimensions. In the last part, the findings and conclusions will be summarized while the existing problems in this study will be pointed out as well, then the author will put forward several suggestions for further research.
