| The Book of Yunnan Black Tea is a book written by Zhou Chonglin and Zhang Yu and published by Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press in 2021,it is the only book on the market that systematically introduces Yunnan black tea, including its history, growing environment, production process and so on.Translating it into English is of great significance for promoting the internationalization of Yunnan black tea and spreading the Chinese tea culture, and the study of this translation practice can help to explore the strategies of tea translation. This thesis is a translation report of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of The Book of Yunnan Black Tea under the guidance of Hu Gengshen’s Eco-translatology theory.Eco-translatology theory has provided a new perspective for the translation study,it discusses that translators should adapt to the translational eco-environment and make adaptive selections based on three-dimensional translation principles.Guided by Eco-translatology theory, this report chooses cases and analyzes the adaptive selections from the linguistic dimension, the cultural dimension, and the communicative dimension to summarize the translation strategies and realize the conversion from the source language to the target language. In the linguistic dimension, such adaptive selections as redividing the Chinese clauses, connecting the clauses with connectors, adding subject and so on were applied in the translation of long sentences and non-subject sentences in Chinese.Besides,in the cultural dimension, translation of culture-loaded words and book titles are analyzed, and the adaptive selections of adding explanations or not adding supplementary information for cultural elements are made according to the comprehensibility of the target reader; In addition, the source texts with rhetorical devices are discussed in the communicative dimension and adaptive selections of preserving the devices or not in the target texts were made to promote communication. Finally, this practice report analyzes the feasibility of the Eco-translatology theory in guiding the C-E translation of tea culture and improving the translation quality through theoretical analysis and case analysis.Furthermore, the author hopes that this study can provide some reference for the translation of tea culture. The translators should try their best to realize the transformation in multiple dimensions such as the linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions, then produce more translations with a high degree of adaptation and enhance the voice of the Chinese culture in the international community. |
