With the continuous advancement of economic globalization,Chinese enterprises began to participate in international business exchanges and cooperation. As an important part of enterprises, the English translation of notes to financial statements is bound to become more important. At present, there are few studies on the English translation of notes to financial statements, there are no specific standards for the translation of relevant accounting texts, and the translation quality is uneven. These studies mainly focus on the lexical characteristics and translation strategies of English financial statements, and rarely involve the syntactic and discoursal level. Moreover,as a part of the enterprise’s financial report, the notes to financial statements belong to a typical informative text because of its more formal language style and the characteristics of mainly transmitting the information of the source text.In view of this, the author chooses Reiss’s Text Typology Theory as the guidance to explore the English translation strategies that can be adopted for the notes to financial statements.Firstly, starting from the characteristics of informative text and notes to financial statements, this thesis determines that notes to financial statements belong to informative text. Then, based on Reiss’s Text Typology Theory, this thesis analyzes the key and difficult points in the translation process and the corresponding translation strategies and methods from the perspectives of vocabulary, syntax and discourse, and demonstrates in detail the guiding role of Text Typology Theory in the English translation of notes to financial statements.Accurate translation of company’s notes to financial statements can enable the company’s foreign creditors and investors to grasp the company’s financial situation in time, facilitate them to analyze the company’s development prospects, and better carry out foreign exchanges and cooperation, which has strong practical value and important economic significance. What’s more, analyzing the English translation methods of vocabulary, syntax and discourse of notes to financial statements based on Reiss’s Text Typology Theory can provide a different research perspective for the translation of accounting texts and enrich the translation research of accounting texts.
