OPEC is a global organization that is critical for maintaining price stability in the international oil market and ensuring stable revenues for oil-producing countries,and its annual report serves as a valuable resource for the industry and major investors,reflecting the oil market and global economy’s developments throughout the year.Petroleum English,as a branch of technical English,is defined by strong sentence logic and specific terminology,which sets a larger premium on the translator’s ability to generate high-quality translations.Chapters 2-3 of Annual Report in 2019 published by OPEC are selected as the source text for this report,and the original text includes two sections on the world economy and oil market developments.This report analyzes the linguistic features of the text from lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level of the original text,and discusses the appropriate translation under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory on the lexical and syntactic levels.On the lexical level,technical words,semi-technical words and abbreviated words in the original text are categorized and suitable translation methods are studied.On the syntactic level,this report discusses the complicated sentences,passive sentences and nominalized structures in the original text,and studies the appropriate translation technique in petroleum English texts.The report illustrates the guiding role of the Text Typology Theory in scientific and technical English texts,hoping to enrich the application scope of the theory,and to provide references for further translation research of OPEC annual reports.
