Homework is an important supplement to classroom teaching.It can not only effectively consolidate the knowledge learned in classes,but also expand students’thinking and improve their ability to analyze and solve problems on the basis of classroom teaching.Therefore,strengthening the rational understanding of homework and optimizing the design of English homework is an important way to effectively reduce the amount of homework and improve the quality and efficiency.Based on students’ English key competences,this study focuses on cultivating students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability,and studies the following three questions:First,what are the problems of English homework design in junior high school?Second,what are the functions of junior high school English homework based on English key competences?Third,what are the design principles and strategies of junior high school English homework based on English key competences?Based on the requirements of the English key competences and the "Double Reduction" policy,using the methods of literature analysis and survey,this study takes two classes of Grade 8 of No.5 junior high school in Dangshan County,Anhui Province as samples.It is found that most of the students don’t like English homework very much.The current forms of English homework are relatively single,which cannot cultivate students’ integrated language capability.Homework evaluation is not targeted enough,basically consists of right or wrong evaluation and grade evaluation.As for the content,there is a lack of training students’ English key competences.Based on the requirement of training students’ English key competences,this study puts forward the principles of English homework design and implementation:principle of subjectivity,principle of unit,principle of hierarchy,principle of interest and principle of process.On this basis,four modes of English homework design are put forward:hierarchical homework,cooperative homework,practical homework and innovative homework.This study takes the English textbook of People’s Education Press for the eighth grade as an example,designs one case of homework of the whole unit and four types of cases for the four homework design modes,specifically explains the design and operation method of each homework mode,in order to provide reference for junior school English teaching under the background of "Double Reduction" policy.
