| 2020 China-ASEAN University(Country and Regional Studies)Think Tank Network Video Forum was successfully held in Nanning on November26.Over 150 experts and scholars as well as representatives of think tanks,discussed the theoretical and practical issues of building China-ASEAN community with a shared future under the raging of the pandemic,focusing on the theme of promoting practical cooperation and deepening bilateral relations.The author had the honor to attend the Opening Ceremony of the conference and carry out a simulated consecutive interpretation of the conference,which served as a profound corpus for the report.Guided by Sleskovitch’s Interpretive Theory,this report briefly describes the background and significance of the project and mainly discusses every steps of the simulated interpretation.Selecting typical cases,the author,endeavors to learn interpreting responses when the interpreter is confronted with politics-related expressions,parallelism,Chinese run-on sentences and overloaded listening comprehension.To handle interpreting responses mentioned above,the report proposes that audiences can obtain the same political connotation as the source text with the supplementation of politics-related expressions.Literal interpretation of parallelism can preserve the linguistic characteristics of the source text and convey the meaning.Clarifying the logic of Chinese run-on sentences makes the interpretation more idiomatic.In the face of overload listening comprehension,restructuring the sentence can extract the core information.Based on the detailed description and case study of this interpretation practice,the author hopes to enrich her own experience to better cope with similar situations in the future and also hopes that the Chinese to English interpreting techniques proposed in this report will benefit the interpretation practice in related fields. |
