A Simulated Interpretation Report On President Xi Jinping’s Keynote Speech Delivered At The Boao Forum For Asia Annual Conference 2015

Based on Danica Seleskovitch’s interpretive theory which has a profound influence on the interpreting studies at home and abroad,this report selects the Keynote Speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015 as the simulated interpreting material.The simultaneous interpreting was adopted in the whole simulated interpreting process.The author transcribes the contents of the simulated interpreting and compared it with the original text,concerning the various problems occurred in the process of simulated interpreting,the author analyzes them respectively and puts forward some corresponding practical and constructive tactics under the guidance of interpretive theory,which would offer a valuable reference for simultaneous interpreters and researchers.Interpretive theory is regarded as one of the most authoritative and representative interpreting theories in the world,which originates from Paris of French in the late 1960s.Because it is directly from the interpretation and translation practice,it is of great practical guiding significance to the interpreting practice.Interpretive theory is also called "Theory of Sense" that was first proposed by the scholars Danica Seleskovitch and Mariana Lederer.It claims that interpreting is interpretive,which means it is a dynamic explanation process that the interpreter comprehends the original text based on his own understanding plus knowledge reserves and cognitive complements then reorganizes the information in the target language without regard to the original language form.The whole process attaches great importance to the transmission of the meaning in interpretation.According to interpretive theory,the whole interpreting process should include three stages:Comprehension,De-verbalization and Reformulation.This simulated practice report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is the description of the simulated interpreting,which includes background,features and requirements of the interpretation task;Chapter Two is about descriptions of the simulated interpreting process including preparation of the task,analysis of simulated interpreting process and assessment and emergency plans after simulated interpreting;Chapter Three and Chapter Four are the most important parts in this report.Chapter Three is the theoretical basis of the whole simulated practice report.It describes the basic connotation of Interpretive Theory and its feasibility applied in the simultaneous interpretation,especially its famous triangle model.Chapter Four is the case analysis,the author concludes several occurred problems such as problems in the Chinese four-character expressions,long complex sentences,Chinese proverbs and parallel sentences.Combined with the theory,the author offers some corresponding practical and constructive tactics under the guidance of interpretive theory for each problem existed in simulated interpreting,such as segmentation and logic reorganization,semantic de-verbalization,omission and integration,addition and so on,which would offer a valuable reference for simultaneous interpreters and learners.The last chapter summarizes unsolved problems,makes a conclusion and gives some further suggestions for interpreters,which would have great practical guiding significance for the interpreting studies in future.
