| On September 10th,2021,the 7thChina-ASEAN Statistics Forum was held in Nanning,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.The theme of the forum was"Deepening China-Asean Statistical Cooperation and Exchange",and participants had in-depth discussions on the topic of"Online statistics:New opportunities under the challenge of COVID-19".Due to the impact of COVID-19,the forum continued to be held online and offline.The author simulated the simultaneous interpretation（SI）of English to Chinese with the screen recording of this forum.This report includes four parts:task description,task process,case analysis and conclusion.In the task description,the author introduces the background and form of this task.The process of task involves preparation before interpretation,simulated SI process and post-task evaluation.The preparation of interpretation includes understanding background knowledge,memorizing statistical terms,and arranging the simulated interpretation work.In the case analysis,the author analyzes four difficulties in this practice under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model.They are the challenges brought by PPT,complex terminology,strong accent,and the speaker’s impromptu comments.And the challenges brought by PPT involves the long and complicated sentence,grammar errors on PPT and the malfunction of the PPT.On this basis,the author puts forward strategies for interpreting from the linguistic and extra-linguistic levels.At the linguistic level,the author proposes translation strategies such as syntactic linearity and compression.On the extra-linguistic level,the author believes that selective reading of slides and getting familiar with the slides beforehand can reduce the adverse effects of slides and thus improve the quality of interpretation..In the last part,the author objectively points out the limitations of this simulated practice,and emphasizes the importance of enriching the forms of daily interpretation training,hoping to bring reference and inspiration to future work and research. |
