A Report On C-E Mock Interpreting Of The Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum 2018 Under The Guidance Of The Effort Model

With the development of times,exchange between nations has become quite important.Economic exchange is the most important one among various exchanges.Moreover,the development of globalization provides valuable opportunities for economic development of different countries.However,the trend brings both advantages and disadvantages.Under this circumstance,entrepreneurs’ communication and exchange can ease economic tension and promote economic development.As the medium of cross-language communication,interpreting serves as a critical bridge connecting entrepreneurs and economies in the world.Consecutive interpreting,as the most important work pattern of interpreting,is substantially needed in the society.Against the background,the report uses three opening speeches of the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum 2018 as interpreting material to conduct a mock consecutive interpreting aiming at probing into production difficulties in mock consecutive interpreting,reasons behind them and corresponding measures according to Gile’s Effort Model of Consecutive Interpreting.The practice is launched based on following processes.First,it is needed to master Gile’s Effort Model of Consecutive Interpreting and the operational constraints of consecutive interpreting through taking literature research and descriptive research methods.Second,two mock consecutive interpreting practices are conducted after full interpreting preparation.Third,the cases from the second mock consecutive interpreting practice are analyzed under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model of Consecutive Interpreting.Fourth,production difficulties,corresponding reasons and coping strategies are concluded.At last,the report is formed.Through the research,the report obtains following findings.First,production difficulties include disfluency,inaccurate information,pragmatic failure,omission and lack of logic.Second,reasons behind production difficulties are excessive cognitive load,interpreters’ competence shortage as well as insufficient processing capacity and unbalanced processing capacity distribution which are prompted by the former two reasons.Third,in order to overcome production difficulties,first of all,bilingualism competence and extra-linguistic knowledge including encyclopedic knowledge,cultural background and professional knowledge should be strengthened.Secondly,interpreting cognitive competence shall be improved including competence of recognition and extraction,summary and integration,reformulation and production.Thirdly,it’s helpful to master related interpreting strategies,such as planning strategy,monitoring strategy and remedy strategy.The researcher makes relatively comprehensive analysis and assessment on her interpreting competence,complements areas of weakness and strengthens her interpreting competence through the report.Meanwhile,the report provides guidance and reference for interpreting learners and interpreting amateurs.
