| Explicitation is one of the strategies used by interpreters to deal with the implicit content of the source language.In C-E simultaneous interpreting,the trainee interpreter needs to explicate the implicit information in Chinese to achieve communicative purposes.However,due to the influence of many factors,the trainee interpreter has difficulty in fully grasping and applying different techniques,resulting in phenomenon of the inadequate explicitation,which ultimately affects the quality of the target language.In view of this,the author,based on her practice,will analyze the reasons for inadequate explicitation and explore the corresponding solutions for achieving the explicitation in the target language.In this paper,the author takes President Xi Jinping’s speech at a National Conference to Review the Fight against Poverty and Commend Individuals and Groups involved as the material for simulated simultaneous interpreting,and then makes a systematic reflection and discussion on this practice.Firstly,the author categorizes and analyzes the inadequate explicitation from three aspects,namely,ideational function information,textual function information,and interpersonal function information.Secondly,under the guidance of the triangular model of the Interpretive Theory,the author analyses the reasons for inadequate explicitation from the interpreting preparations and processes.Finally,guided by the triangular model the author presents some solutions to inadequate explicitation in the target language.After a systematic analysis,the author believes that the trainee interpreter can achieve the explicitation in the following two ways.On the one hand,before interpreting,interpreters should consolidate the bilingual foundation,strengthen their bilingual communication skills and know more encyclopedic knowledge to mitigate the failure of explicitation.On the other hand,during the interpreting processes,paraphrasing and addition can be applied to realize explicitation of the ideational function information,substitution and addition for the explicitation of the textual function information,and the stressing skill as well as appropriate modal verbs for the explicitation of the interpersonal function information. |
