| This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report that analyzes the target text from three levels: lexicon, syntax and discourse. In the translation practice, four chapters in the autobiographical novel We Adopted Five Special-needs Foster Kids written by American female writer Ann Ellsworth are selected as the translation source text. The source text mainly expresses the protagonist Ann’s hardship and happiness in raising special-needs children, which has unique practical significance. The translation theory selected is Skopos Theory, which consists of Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the translation methods, like sequential translation, footnoting, splitting and combination can be flexibly used to solve the problems encountered in the translation process according to the translation purpose. This thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the author and the features of the source text. The second chapter describes the translation process, including pre-translation process,in-translation process and post-translation process. The third chapter is a brief introduction to the theoretical background, mainly introducing the three rules and the application of Skopos Theory. The fourth chapter focuses on case analysis, exploring the selections and application of different translation methods under the guidance of Skopos Theory. The final chapter is a summary on this translation report. In the translation process, the translator employs different translation methods according to the language characteristics and cultural differences to strive to reproduce the features of the source text. The translator hopes that this thesis can provide some ideas for learners who study literary translation or special-needs children. |
