| The Extended Mind is a non-literary work written by American female writer Annie Murphy Paul.This work mainly discusses the importance and benefits of thinking besides brain such as thinking with movements and with peers and so on.The language of this work is reasonable and convincing which can persuade us readers to follow the writer’s thinking pattern and lead us to thinking outside our brains.The translator mainly translates one chapter of the second part of this book into Chinese under the guidance of The Skopos Theory.The skops theory mainly puts emphasis on reaching the aim of the translation,that is to say,the translator should convey the original meaning and intention of the author to let readers totally understand what the writer wants to express no matter what translation methods has been used.In other words,the aim is the most essential element under the guidance of this theory.And one should adhere to three main principles of this theory: the skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule.And the translator utilizes various methods at lexical level,syntactical level and contextual level to realize these three principles.Under the guidance of coherence rule,the translator utilizes the methods of inversion,addition and other methods.Under the guidance of the skopos rule,the translator adopts the methods of repetition and the conversion of part of speech and so on.Under the guidance of the fidelity rule,the translator translates the figure of speech and the oral style in accordance with the literal translation method.In accordance with the skopos rule,the translator divided the contents into four aspects,they are at lexical level,at syntactical level,translating sense of picture and translating the figure of speech of metaphor.At lexical level,the translator used methods of repetition and addition so as to make the sentences more smooth.At the syntactical level,the translator utilized inversion and conversion method so as to make the sentences more readable and fluent.The important aspect is translating metaphorical meaning and the sense of picture.When translating metaphorical meaning,one can either preserve the original vehicle or not preserve it,the translator translated certain sentences without preserving the original vehicle given the original text.And in translating the sense of picture out,the translator tried to make the translation more vividly and directly perceived.Throughout the whole process of the translation,the translator understands the importance of theory and the methods of translation under the guidance of the theory so as to enhance the quality of the text. |
