| This is a translation practice report.The source text was selected from part of We Were the Lucky Ones by American female writer Georgia Hunter.This translation practice belongs in the literary translation category.This novel is about the massacre of Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II.As Jews,the Kurc family have also been hit by the catastrophes.The Kurc family must rely on their faith,wisdom and inner strength to persist and survive.This novel shows that in the darkest time of the twentieth century,the human spirit of perseverance can last and thrive.This report analyzes the textual features of this novel,and selects eighteen sentences from the original works as the cases of translation.This report focuses on the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory in the process of translation.It summarizes the translation methods used to improve my own translation capacity and hopes to provide some references for peers.Based on Skopos theory,this translation report analyzes the methods used in the process of this literary translation.In order to help the target readers to understand the culture and traditions of the Jewish nation,and convey the value of family affections to the target readers,under the guidance of the skopos rule,the author adopts the amplification and liberal translation.The coherence rule requires that the translation must conform to the standard of intertextual coherence,the translation must be coherent and smooth,and the translation should conform to the expression habit and logic of the target readers.Under the guidance of the coherence rule,the author adopts the inversion and division in the process of translation.The fidelity rule requires that the translation must be faithful to content of the original text and the author’s intention.Under the guidance of the fidelity rule,the author adopts the literal translation and annotation in the process of translation.This report mainly studies the translation methods of the literary text.Through the translation practice and the cases analysis,the author has the following understanding.First,we need to read relevant background knowledge before translation so that we can better understand the content of the original text and the author’s intention.Second,we need to accurately understand the characters and the features of the text.Only in this way can we accurately convey the characters’ images and the author’s emotion.Third,mastering a variety of translation methods are conductive to the completion of translation practice. |
