Labour is the essential characteristic of human beings,and all material and cultural wealth of society begins with labour.In recent years,the nurturing value of labour education has been recalled and emphasized,and the state has issued relevant policies and documents to support and accelerate the integration and development of labour education in school education.2021,the Ministry of Education issued a series of documents on the inclusion of major themes in the curriculum and teaching materials,among which the "Guideline for Labour Education in Primary,Secondary and University Schools(for trial implementation)" clearly states that art subjects,including music,should give full play to the unique advantages of the art curriculum and incorporate labour education-related content in a focused manner.It is important to incorporate labour education-related content in a focused manner.In April 2022,the Compulsory Education Labour Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition),the first labour curriculum standards at the national level in China,marked the systematic construction of a curriculum system for the comprehensive cultivation of moral,intellectual,physical,social and aesthetic development at the compulsory education level in China.It can be seen that the application of music’s own characteristics and strengths to cultivate students’ labour literacy is in line with the development trend of "five education integrations" in the new era.Primary school is a crucial period for cultivating the correct values and good habits of young people,and the music curriculum,as a key art subject in the aesthetic education of schools,is also a strong subject related to labour education,with unique value and significant advantages in shaping students’ correct concepts of labour and cultivating their positive labour spirit.In view of this,this study takes the educational trend of integration of the five education disciplines as the background,clarifies the necessity and possibility of integrating labour education into the primary school music curriculum from the perspective of the music discipline,and proposes targeted integration strategies and feasible pathways based on the current practice of integrating labour education into the primary school music curriculum.Firstly,the study explores the intrinsic logic of labour education and the music curriculum in relation to the literature on labour education,and demonstrates that labour education is an inevitable requirement for the implementation of the integration of the five education areas,an important way to cultivate students’ core qualities in the art curriculum,and contains the natural function of nurturing people and beauty,so its integration is necessary.The links between labour education and the primary school music curriculum in terms of educational objectives,educational resources and educational practices also provide the potential for effective integration of labour education.Secondly,the educational resources contained in the teaching materials,which are the basis for teachers’ teaching and students’ learning,are the basis for the real integration of labour education into the subject curriculum.The study has constructed a framework for analysing the textbooks based on the four dimensions of labour literacy in the curriculum standards,and on this basis has listed the distribution of the elements and contents of labour education in a total of 12 textbooks of the Renyin edition of primary school music,and has clarified the connection points between labour education and the primary school music curriculum.The analysis of the textbooks reveals that all the elements of labour education are presented in the textbooks,with a combination of the direct presentation of unit themes and the indirect presentation of exercises.The analysis of the materials paves the way for further research.Thirdly,in order to understand the current situation of the integration of labour education into the primary school music curriculum,this study uses field research and questionnaires to select and sample a total of 341 students from the lower,middle and upper sections of a primary school in Wuhan to conduct a survey,supplemented by interviews with six front-line music teachers to analyse and attribute the problems.The analysis revealed that the integration of labour education into the primary school music curriculum faces the problems of teachers’ lack of attention to the importance of labour education,students’ lack of awareness of the importance of labour,insufficient development and incomplete exploitation of teaching materials and the "de-physicalisation" of teaching methods,resulting in the inability to provide clear and explicit guidelines for the integration of labour education in classroom teaching,and students’ inability to develop an interest in labour and stimulate their labour potential through concrete experiences.As a result,students are unable to develop an interest in work and stimulate their potential for work.By examining the above problems,we can suggest more targeted ways and strategies to integrate labour education into the primary school music curriculum.Finally,on the basis of the above-mentioned problems,the study proposes feasible ways to integrate labour education into the primary school music curriculum based on the analysis of the foundations related to the integration of labour education into the primary school music curriculum.First,to enhance teachers’ quality and strengthen primary school music teachers’ ability to integrate labour education.This includes establishing the educational concept of subject integration,actively participating in relevant organisations’ training,and focusing on teaching reflection.The second is to explore the resources of teaching materials and clarify the key points of integrating labour education into the primary school music curriculum,including making full use of the content of the textbook,deeply exploring the supplementary panels in the teaching materials and integrating and summarising thematic units,so as to promote the use of teaching resources with a main line and planning.The third is to innovate teaching methods,from creating life situations,carrying out thematic activities and using learning tasks to build a bridge between the primary music curriculum and labour education.In order to ensure the practical implementation of the research content related to the integration of labour education into the primary school music curriculum,this study has conducted an application case design on the basis of proposing feasible pathways,with a view to providing new ideas for the integration of labour education into music teaching and further promoting the practice of labour education in the music subject.It is believed that with the joint efforts of the state,society,schools and even individual teachers,the subject of music can also give full play to its own characteristics and advantages and make its due contribution to the cultivation of a well-rounded new man of the times.
