In junior high school English teaching,the traditional education concept is still adopted for some English teachers in the current English class.They only pay attention to the students’ test results,do not follow the language learning rules and students’ cognitive rules,and implement "cramming" teaching for students.According to the national compulsory education curriculum standards,this study proposes a teaching method of unit integration,which optimizes the combination of teaching materials,adds,deletes or changes the order of teaching materials under the guidance of unit objectives.At the same time,attention should be paid to the design of academic records,classroom evaluation,group cooperation and hierarchical work to improve students’ comprehensive English ability and core competencies.On the basis of Constructivism,Gestalt and Humanism,and of the research on core competencies and unit integration at home and abroad,this study adopts the methods of questionnaires,tests and interviews to study the experimental class and control class of Fengming Middle School for one academic year.The main research questions are:1.What is the current situation of the use of unit integration teaching method in junior high school English teaching?2.What is the effect of unit integration teaching method on students’ performances?3.What is the effect of unit integration teaching method on students’ core competencies?The results show that through teacher interviews,this study finds that teachers basically accept the teaching method of unit integration,but there is still some confusion in the use.Three tests were used in this study to verify that the teaching method of unit integration is conducive to improving students’ test results.This study aims to understand the students’ core competencies through two questionnaires and interviews with students.First,the students in two parallel classes of Grade 8 of Fengming Middle School in Zaozhuang City,Shandong Province were pre-tested to ensure that the English core competencies of the two classes before the experiment was basically at the same level.After one academic year of teaching,the teaching method of unit integration was implemented in the experimental class,while the traditional teaching method was implemented in the control class,and then the students in the two classes were post-tested.It is found that the English core competencies level of students in experimental class has been improved to different degrees.In student interviews,they generally thought that the teaching method of unit integration was more conducive to the improvement of their core competencies.At the end of this study,it shows the pedagogical implications for junior English teaching and puts forward suggestions for improvement.The main problems of the teaching method of unit integration in junior middle school English classroom are as follows: teachers’ understanding of unit integration deviates in practice;Teachers lack of overall grasp of the textbook;Teachers lack a mature overall design model and systematic guidance;Teachers and students are still affected by the traditional education mechanism,and the students’ foundation is poor.Suggestions for improvement are also put forward from the following three aspects.First,teachers should adhere to correct educational concepts,actively improve the ability of unit integration,focus on student-centered teaching,such as student evaluation,group collaboration,and layered homework,they should also comprehensively grasp the textbooks from a certain height and dig deeply into them.Second,students should cultivate the good habit of preview before class,form the study habit of comprehensive and deep unit integration and improve their learning autonomy through various forms of classes.Third,schools should provide teachers with more opportunities for collective teaching,research and training.The research shows that in junior high school English teaching,the unit integration teaching method based on core competencies is conducive to improving students’ language ability,learning ability,thinking quality and cultural awareness.It has both theoretical and practical significance.The teaching method of unit integration is currently in the stage of exploration and research,and its maturity needs the joint efforts of teachers and students. |
