| English reading teaching design is a very important part of English teaching in junior high school.It reflects what goals English teachers should achieve through reading teaching,what content they should teach,what activities they should organize,what skills they should use and what resources they should use to achieve the goal of reading teaching.An adequate teaching design of English reading is an important prerequisite for a good reading class.The concept of English Subject Core Competencies has been formed,which consists of key competencies and essential qualities.In the mean time,under the background of core competency,Professor Wang Qiang(王蔷,2017)explores the relationship between core competency and reading teaching.What’s more,she thoroughly analyzes the current problems in English reading teaching,and puts forward the principles,objectives and paths that English reading teaching should follow.In China,English class is a significant form for most students to learn English,and English reading design based on English Subject Core Competencies will have a great impact on English classes and students’ learning results.Therefore,it is particularly important to study English Subject Core Competencies as the guiding ideology in the design of English reading teaching.However,due to many factors,the research on the teaching design of English reading based on English Subject Core Competencies in junior high school is just at the beginning stage in China,and the research is not deep enough,which results in some problems in the current teaching design of English reading.These problems are not conducive to the cultivation of English Subject Core Competencies,but they attract more scholars’ attention and research in this field.Based on English Subject Core Competencies and the principles,objectives and paths that Professor Wang Qiang(王蔷,2017)put forward in the context of core competence,this paper mainly adopts the research instruments such as case analysis,classroom observation and interview and it aims to solve the following three problems.1.What difficulties have English teachers encountered in designing reading lessons based on English Subject Core Competencies in junior high school?2.What are the causes for English teachers’ difficulties in designing reading lessons based on English Subject Core Competencies in junior high school?3.How to conduct reading teaching design according to English Subject Core Competencies?The results shows that there are four main difficulties that junior English teachers encounter in designing reading classes based on English Subject Core Competencies:1.The English teachers still focus on language knowledge,while the language characteristics of the article and rhetoric appreciation are rarely mentioned.2.It’s difficult for some teachers to create a positive motivation and environment all the time so that some students can not focus on the class for a long time and they lose their interests in the reading gradually.3.The English teachers only have one or two reading classes and they rarely make use of extracurricular reading materials.4.The teachers’ understanding of English Subject Core Competence is not deep and comprehensive enough.The reasons for teachers’ difficulties are summarized:1.Teaching philosophy.2.Class hours.3.Teaching materials.4.Reading guidance.However,some limitations still exist in this research,and the problems need to be further explored and analyzed by professionals. |
