| The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition)promulgated in 2022 for the first time clearly proposed a curriculum framework based on the construction of a grading system.Reading is a significant way for students to gain information,and reading skills are the most basic ability in language learning,which contribute to the development of students’ cultural awareness,master effective learning strategies,and improve the overall language skills.It has a far-reaching impact on the development of students’ cognitive ability,the cultivation of humanistic literacy and form correct values.Krashen indicates that second-language(including foreign)reading not only promotes the development of language ability,but also promotes children’s cognitive development.It is necessary to maximize students’ interest in English learning,let them like reading,and take the initiative to read so as to lay a solid foundation for future English learning.In recent years,it has attracted the attention and application of the majority of English teachers.Based on schema theory,input theory and Piaget’s cognitive theory of child development,by applying graded picture books as teaching resources in English reading teaching,attempt to explore the following two questions below :1.What is the impact of English graded reading teaching on the reading interest of primary school students?2.What is the impact of English graded reading teaching on students’ reading comprehension ability?In this study,100 students in the fourth grade of a primary school in Yingkou area were used as the research objects to carry out a 16-week practical activity of teaching English graded picture book reading.Before the experiment,English tests and questionnaires were conducted on all students in the experimental class and control class,and it was found that there were no significant differences in English proficiency between the two classes.In the implementation stage,the control class used English reading textbooks,and the the experimental class takes English graded reading books for reading instruction.After the experiment,all the students in the two classes were again surveyed for English reading tests and questionnaires,the following two conclusions were summarized by analyzing the results of the two questionnaires,test results and interviews before and after the two classes:First,through the English picture book reading teaching activities,it can effectively enhance the interest of primary school students in English reading;Second,through English picture book reading teaching activities,it can improve the English reading comprehension ability of primary school students;In addition,some strategies and suggestions for the English graded picture book reading teaching are summarized and put forward.In the one-semester’s English graded picture book teaching,there are both gains and shortcomings,summarizes some strategies and suggestions for graded picture book teaching,and hope to find more effective English reading teaching methods in the future graded picture book reading teaching work.Finally,the limitations of this study are summarized and further prospects are proposed. |
