| With the continuous development of new curriculum reform,English teaching in primary school become a new concern.Primary school English is the basic stage of cultivating students’ English core literacy,which play an important role in the future learning in middle school,in university,and even the long life.It clearly points out that primary school students should read simple stories,understand and retell stories with the help of pictures in English Curricular Standards for Compulsory Education(2011).So primary school students need relevant books that match their English knowledge structures.Reading English books is of profound significance for improving students’ comprehensive language application abilities.Fran Lebowitz,a famous American writer,said: Think before you speak,read before you Think.Improving students’ reading ability is one of the basic requirements of English courses.English textbooks just provide a limited amount of reading.The cultivation of students’ reading literacy cannot be fully realized through reading school textbooks.Students need to be supplied with their kinds of reading materials that are suitable for their different stages of cognitive development and English knowledge level.Based on the survey of current situation in the primary school English teaching,we found that some schools never offer English reading classes.Some schools use ‘Story Time’ in the textbooks as the reading teaching text.The whole language structures of ‘Story Time’ is for students to consolidate the unit’s functional sentences and vocabularies.The quantities and qualities of students’ reading cannot be effectively guaranteed and expanded.The cultivation of English reading literacy will also be negatively affected.Graded picture books are a series of stepped English reading books,which are suited for students’ physical and mental development characteristics,cognitive levels at different ages,and the rules of language learning.Graded picture books can be used as teaching materials for English teachers.For teachers who are used to teaching textbooks,they will have no ideas about how to teaching picture books.And teachers tend to have one-sided and subjective ideas about picking picture books.According to the situation,this study expounds the reasons for choosing graded picture books as reading materials and the research background.The subjects were grade four students.This study analyzes the whole processes of teachers teaching graded picture book reading based on whole-language teaching theory,situational teaching theory and scaffolding teaching theory.Furthermore,it supplies and improves the reading teaching modes of graded picture book.The main methods of this study are classroom observation,students questionnaire survey and teachers interview.After the acquired data comprehensively analyzed,the study can get the graded picture books reading teaching mode in primary school.This paper provides a reference method for English reading teaching in primary school. |
