| "Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards" reading requirements for middle and high school students in elementary school is that students can understand simple stories or short essays with the help of pictures,and can develop the habit of reading according to intention.English graded reading standards for primary and secondary school propose that: according to the actual cognitive level,thinking ability and level of primary school students’ language development rules we should provide appropriate reading materials for primary school students.However,in the traditional reading teaching,only the input of grammar and vocabulary is emphasized.Some teachers have added picture books but the teachers did not really choose picture books according to the current level of the students.For a long time,students’ reading ability,reading interest,reading level,reading habits and other aspects will be affected.From this point,reading graded picture books for primary school students is particularly important.The author selected 96 fifth-graders and divided them into experimental class and control class according to experimental needs.Students in the experimental class use a graded picture book reading teaching model,while the control class uses a traditional reading teaching method.The experiment used interviews,questionnaires,and test papers toconduct an empirical study on the use of graded picture books for reading instruction in primary school English reading teaching classrooms.This article aims to study the following two main issues:1.Can English graded picture books readings improve students’ reading interest?2.Can English graded picture books readings improve students’ reading comprehension ability?Through one-semester investigation and experiments,and collected relevant data,SPSS software was used for statistical analysis.Then came to the following conclusion: the students in the experimental class were better than the students in the controlled class in reading interest and reading comprehension ability through the reading of graded picture books.Therefore,it can be confirmed that the use of graded picture books reading teaching is superior to traditional reading teaching.Finally,the author also puts forward several suggestions for reading teaching of English graded picture books:(1)Graded picture books reading teaching should be combined with layered reading teaching,and different requirements are put forward for students with different reading abilities.Under the goal of unified reading comprehension,There are different graded reading materials and different reading exercises or different requirements for the same graded reading material for students with different reading abilities.(2)In the future teaching,the online reading and evaluation of students’ reading ability should be carried out by using the Lexile reading assessment system,which can more objectively draw the changing trend ofstudents’ reading comprehension ability. |
