| According to The National English Curriculum for Compulsory Education(2011 version),the requirements on English teaching in primary schools should emphasize the importance of reading,and focus on students’ understanding of the story with simple pictures and words,and cultivate students’ reading interests and habits,thereby improving their reading ability.However,due to the influence of traditional concepts and teaching conditions,the English reading teaching of primary school faces many difficulties and challenges.Therefore,how to improve students’ English reading interest and reading ability has become a difficult point in primary school.In recent years,picture books reading has been widely used in China and has achieved good results.Picture book,as a unique visual and literary art form,emphasizes the interpenetration and description of pictures and words to express specific emotions.It has the same function as language narration,and bears the tasks of narrative lyricism and expression.It plays an important role in students’ reading interest and ability.Therefore,this study is based on Schema Theory to explore the effect of picture books reading.A teaching experiment for about 20 weeks was done by the writer.The research subject was 120 students in the 3rd and 4th classes of the fourth grade in a primary school in Dalian.Class 3 is an experimental class and class 4 is a control class.The experimental class mainly combined the English textbooks and the English picture books as auxiliary teaching materials.While the control class only used English textbooks.The research mainly used teaching experiment method,questionnaires,interviews and the comprehensive analysis of the results of the experiment to conclude that the use of English picture books can effectively improve the English reading interest and reading ability of primary school students.In addition,at the end of the study,the writer offers some suggestions for the future application of English picture books in primary school English teaching,hoping to help the status quo,so as to improve the English reading interest and English reading ability of primary school students. |
