Since 2016,the concept of "Curriculum Civics",as a brand new concept distinct from "Civics Curriculum",was proposed by President Xi Jinping when he attended the National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Universities.The concept of"Curriculum Thinking and Politics" has appeared frequently in national policies,curriculum standards and subject core literacy.The GCSE English Curriculum Standard(Revised Edition 2020)confirms that the fundamental mission of the English subject is to build moral character and that curriculum thinking and politics is a key part of cultivating socialist builders and successors with Chinese sentiment,international perspective and cross-cultural communication skills."From primary school to university,the concept of"Curriculum Thinking and Politics" is gradually being incorporated into the teaching of the subject.The new curriculum standards have established a curriculum structure consisting of compulsory,optional and elective courses,and the setting of elective courses is an important step in the reform of the high school curriculum,which aims to develop students’ interests and help them realise their self-worth.This paper is based on the thesis of "Development and Application of Curriculum Thinking and Politics Optional Course with the Content-Based Instruction in Senior High School",which is not only in line with the national policy and the direction of the general high school English curriculum reform,but also reflects the real needs of teachers and students.This study takes CBI teaching philosophy and implicit education theory as the theoretical basis and focuses on three research questions: what is the feasibility of developing a CBI-based high school english curriculum thinking and politics elective course,how to develop a high school english curriculum thinking and politics optional course based on CBI teaching philosophy and how effective is the implementation of a high school english curriculum thinking and politics optional course based on CBI teaching philosophy.The study takes 49 students in the first year of senior high school in Yan’an City as the research subjects,applies the 6T teaching method based on the CBI teaching concept to the design of teaching cases,and applies two research tools,Curriculum scale and interviews,to test the effectiveness of the implementation of CBI-based curriculum thinking and politics optional courses in senior high school.The study found that it is necessary to develop a CBI-based English language curriculum thinking and politics optional course,the 6T teaching method based on the CBI teaching concept is suitable for teaching a CBI-based curriculum thinking and politics optional course in English language,the optional course helps to optimise high school students’ attitudes towards learning English,enhance their life values and deepen their experience of home and country.
