| With the accelerated pace of China’s opening up to the outside world and the deepening of globalization,a large number of excellent foreign children’s literature works have been introduced to China. These excellent Chinese translations of children’s literature not only enrich children’s cultural life, but also broaden their horizons. Therefore, the introduction of high-quality foreign children’s literature is especially important in our time. This translation practice is based on chapters 31 to34 of The Laird’s Inheritance by the British author George Mac Donald et al.,with a translation practice volume of 11,685 Chinese characters.Based on this translation practice, the translator hopes to get a better overview of the characteristics of children’s literature texts, summarize the translation skills of children’s literature texts, and accumulate experience for future translation work. The translator completes E-C translation practice of chapters 31 to 34 of The Laird’s Inheritance guided by Aesthetics of Reception, which was proposed by German Professor Hans Robert Jauss in 1967.Its core idea is that the translation should be reader-centered,and translators should pay attention to the readers’ expectation horizon, and make the translation horizon merge with the readers’ expectation horizon. The translator read a large number of parallel texts in the pretranslation stage to fully grasp the use of children’s language and consulted a large amount of background knowledge to better decipher the Scots. The translator summarizes the translation techniques and methods used at the lexical level, syntactic level and rhetorical level respectively. At the level of vocabulary, children’s language is used to reflect the child-likeness of the translation through the use of colloquial words, superlatives and onomatopoeia, which are vivid and fast-paced;at the syntactic level, the transformation of sentence patterns and the reorganization of sentences help children readers to clarify logic and deepen their understanding;at the level of rhetoric, the translation is made vivid and concrete through the use of metaphors,similes,four-character prose and end rhymes, which enhance the reading experience of children readers.Based on the above approaches, the translator achieves the integration of the expected vision of child readers with the vision of the translated text, hoping to stimulate their interest in reading and help them gain more knowledge from foreign literature. The translator hopes that the study on the combination of Aesthetics of Reception and translation of children’s literature will bring to children literature that is both educational and childlike, broaden the research field for the application of receptive aesthetic theory, and provide a reference for future translators of similar texts as well. |
