In recent years,China has made great progress in the field of artificial intelligence, and has focused on promoting AI driven new smart Community Governance and services.During the epidemic prevention and control period,AI provided technical support and practical basis for the establishment, operation and evaluation feedback of smart communities, and effectively improved the effectiveness of Community Governance. This translation practice report selects the third chapter “Artificial Intelligence Empowering the Public Health Protection of Smart Communities” of the book--Artificial Intelligence-powered Smart Community--as this translation task. This study takes Catford’s translation shifts theory as the theoretical framework, and selects typical cases in the process of C-E translation from the perspective of category shifts. The study finds that the source text has many technical terms, long difficult and complex sentences,a large number of active sentence patterns and verb connected sentence patterns, which are characterized by objectivity, accuracy, rigorous structure and strong logic;it also identifies the difficulties encountered in the English translation process from four aspects:structure shifts, class shifts, unit shifts and intra-system shifts, and explores proper solutions and methods to solves them effectively. The translation of scientific and technological texts strives to accurately express and convey the maximum amount of information with the minimum number of textual symbols,so Catford’s translation shifts theory of “deviating from formal equivalence” can conform to the principle--”content is more important than form” in scientific and technological translation.Through these“translation shifts methods”,text equivalence has been ultimately achieved, thereby confirming that translation shifts theory is suitable for the analysis of scientific and technological texts. It is hoped that this practice report can enrich the application of artificial intelligence in smart city construction and provide some reference for the translation of similar texts. |
