Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the distinct therapeutic benefits of a combined approach using abdominal acupuncture and warm acupuncture, versus oral celecoxib capsules, for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, specifically targeting patients with Yang deficiency and cold coagulation types. To explore the effectiveness and superiority of abdominal acupuncture combined with warm acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis,so as to provide new ideas and methods for clinical treatment of this disease. Methods: In this study,we selected 80 patients who were diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis(Yang deficiency and cold coagulation type)from Song Orthopaedics Department,Geriatric Orthopaedics Department of the affiliated Hospital of Gansu University of traditional Chinese Medicine, and Gansu Provincial Acupuncture and Massage Clinical Medical Center. The study randomly assigned patients into two groups: the treatment group(which received abdominal acupuncture combined with warm acupuncture)and the control group(which received celecoxib capsules,n=40).Prior to treatment, immediately after treatment, and one month following treatment,we documented the patients’ VAS,WOMAC,Lysholm, and TCM syndrome scores.Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture combined with warm acupuncture in treating knee osteoarthritis.Results:1.Comprehensive effect:The overall effective rate was 94.74% in the treatment group and78.95% in the control group(P<0.05).2.The two groups were matched with respect to age, sex, disease duration, and baseline scores of VAS,WOMAC,Lysholm, and TCM syndrome scores, showing no significant differences.3.Both groups showed a reduction in VAS score,WOMAC score, and TCM syndrome score,as well as an increase in Lysholm score after treatment and follow-up.The treatment group exhibited significantly greater improvements(P<0.05)compared to the control group. The between-group comparison showed that the treatment group had significantly lower VAS score,WOMAC score, and TCM syndrome score,as well as significantly higher Lysholm score during the same observation period(after treatment and follow-up)(P<0.05).4.Adverse reaction rate:The incidence of adverse reactions was 5.26% in the treatment group and 21.05% in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)The effectiveness of a treatment regimen comprising abdominal acupuncture, warm acupuncture, and oral celecoxib capsules for knee osteoarthritis, specifically of the Yang deficiency and cold coagulation subtype, has been confirmed clinically. However, abdominal acupuncture combined with warm acupuncture has been found to be more effective,long-lasting and safe compared to oral celecoxib capsule.(2)The use of abdominal acupuncture combined with warm acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial in improving pain, joint function, and daily activities among patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis(of the Yang deficiency and cold coagulation type).
