Routine acupuncture points-Heding、Neixiyan、 Waixiyan、 Liangqiu、 Xuehai、 Yanglingquan、 Zusanli、 Sanyinjiao wereused on all patients. In the warm-needle group, acupuncture points-Heding、Neixiyan、Waixiyan were given a temperature raise while in the Heding、Neixiyan、Waixiyan weretreated with the EA. Both groups were treated every other day for40days with every10treatments being one treatment period. Between treatment periods, patients were given arest period of2-3days. Evaluation of the two groups were done for knee osteoarthritis pain, morning stiffness, general condition, clinical symptoms and signs.Result:1. Clinical efficiency: Both the warm group and EA group have positive results, with the warm group having a total effective rate of96.67%and the EA group have a totaleffective rate of83.33%.There was a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.01).2. Disease severity index: For both the warm and EA group, there is significantstatistical evidence(P<0.01) to suggest that there was a positive improvement before andafter treatment. Comparing the warm group and EA group, there is significant statisticalevidence(P<0.01) to suggest that the warm-needle group was more effective.3.Womactotal score: For both the warm and EA group, there is significant statistical evidence(P<0.01) to suggest that there was a positive improvement before and after treatment.4.Finally,When looking at pain score, morning-stiffness score, and general condition score, there are significant statistical evidence(P<0.01) to suggest that there was a positive improvementbefore and after treatment. Comparing the two groups, there is significant statisticalevidence(P<0.01) to suggest that the warm-needle group performed better. Conclusion: Both the warm needle and EA group achieved positive results in treatingYang deficiency Hanning type knee osteoarthritis and relieving pain and morning stiffness, with overall improvement of patients’ general conditions. However, overall, the warmneedle group had a more positive effect on patients when compared to the patients of theEA group.
