| Objective: To investigate the effect of surgical treatment of Muller-Weiss disease. Methods: A retrospective review of 9 patients with Muller-Weiss disease treated by talonavicular arthrodesis from January 2010 to March2021 was conducted. The study includes 1 male and 8 females;with an average age 48.67;According to Maceira staging system, there are 5cases of Ⅱ stage and 4 cases of III stage. All patients were treated with 2– 3 hollow tension screws for the fusion of talonavicular joint.Pub Med(Medline),EMBASE,Cochrane Library and CNKI were also searched for relevant studies. All studies with cases ≥ 5 with an available full text involving Muller-Weiss treatment were included.Data related to surgical types, complications and clinical outcomes were extracted and analyzed. Results: 1.In the retrospective review, the visual analogue scale(VAS)score was significantly reduced from 7.67 ± 1.22 to 1 ± 1.11(P <0.01),and the ankle-backfoot scale(AOFAS)score of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Association was significantly increased from45.89 ± 9.61 to 89.33 ± 5.90(P < 0.01).The medial longitudinal arch angle decreased from 133.2 ± 8.5 preoperatively to 124.1 ± 7.5postoperatively(P < 0.05),the Pitch angle increased from 15.5 ± 4.9preoperatively to 19.9 ± 4.4 postoperatively(P < 0.05),and the Meary angle changed from 16.7 ± 8.8 preoperatively to 2.1 ± 1.4 postoperatively(P < 0.05).2.In literature review,a total of 336 literatures were retrieved, and 23 literatures were included in this study, including 1 randomized controlled study,1 case-control study and 21 case series studies; In all the reports in the literature, the postoperative FAS scores of patients were significantly improved, and the Meary angle and Kite angle almost returned to normal. The arch height and Pitch angle were improved.Talonavicular arthrodesis is the most common operation with a low incidence of postoperative complicationsConclusion: Talonavicular arthrodesis is a mature and effective surgical method for MWD. |
