Objective: To evaluate the effects of the talonavicular and naviculocuneiformfusion for the Muller-Weiss disease. Methods: Between May2008and April2012,28cases with Muller-Weiss diseasewere treated in our department with talonavicular and naviculocuneiform fusion and autoiliac bone graft. There were2males and26females,with an average age of55.3years(range from44to65years). According to the Maceira staging system,8feet weregraded as stage Ⅲ,9feet of stage Ⅳ,and11feet of stage Ⅴ.10feet were fixed withcannulated screw and staples;18feet were fixed with cannulated screw and “X”shapelocking plate.Results:26patients got final follow-up, mean follow-up time was16.2months(range from9to24months).All feet got solid fusion and the mean union time was13.4weeks(range from12to16weeks).There were no infection, wound problem or implantbreakage complications. TheAmerican Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) midfoot score improvedfrom (42.6±13.4) points preoperatively to (88±12) points at last follow-up(p<0.05). TheVisual Analog Score (VAS) improved from(6.2±2.4)points preoperatively to(0.6±0.4)points at last follow-up(p<0.05).Conclusions: Talonavicular and naviculocuneiform fusion is an effective and reliablesurgical treatment for ending stage of Muller-Weiss disease.
