Objective To evaluate operative techniques and clinical effects for Muller-Weiss disease.Method From September 2010 to September 2014,9 cases of Muller-Weiss disease were treated with peri-navicular arthrodesis. The mean age of patients was 52.1 years(range,34to61years),which consisted of 2 males and 7 females.According to the Maceira staging, there were 2 of stage 2,4 of stage 3,3 of stage 4 and 1 of stage 5.2 feet were treated with talonavicular arthrodesis,6 feet were treated with talonavicular-cuneiform arthrodesis, and 1 foot was treated with triple arthrodesis.Result All 9 patients were available at follow-up, and the mean follow-up period was 15.8 months(range,12 to 18 months). All foot were solid fusion and the average duration of union was 14.6 weeks(range,12 to 17 weeks). One feet had fixed screw loosening of the cuneiform bone. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score were (43.4±16.1) preoperatively and (85.3±6.2) post-operatively.3 feet were excellent,5 feet were good, and 1 foot was fair. The length of feet was(14.3±0.9)cm preoperatively and (15.5±0.8)cm post-operatively(P<0.05).The height of arch was(10.2±0.7)mm preoperatively and (18.6±0.9)mm post-operatively(P<0.05).The Meary-Tomeno’s angle was (-2.1±4.8) °preoperatively and (1.3±2.5) °ost-operatively(P<0.05).Conclusion The peri-navicular arthrodesis resulted in a good clinical outcome for Muller-Weiss disease patients, whom after failure of conservative management, and the surgical program is determined by the navicular bone and related injury.
