| As a part of the urban public space, historical and cultural blocks carry the traditional and spiritual connotation of the whole city. The public space of historical and cultural blocks is characterized by small scale and high density, and has its unique social relations and spatial characteristics.Although the protection and transformation of historical blocks has changed from the former "bulldozer" type to the current "small-scale" and "progressive" type,However, the increase of "lost space" in the block is still the cultural heritage of the current historical and cultural block, and the shaping of style and features constitutes a public crisis.Nowadays, people’s demand for building an ecological and livable space environment is increasing, and the comfort of public space has also become people’s judgment on the quality of a city’s environment. Therefore, the revitalization of the micro-space of historical and cultural blocks plays a positive role in the cultural quality of the whole block. This design study takes Renmin Road in Suzhou(Xianghua Bridge-Baita West Road section)as the practice object, and takes small-scale public space as the research and design focus. On the basis of theoretical research at home and abroad, the field survey was carried out on some blocks and design sections of the ancient city of Suzhou, and the PSPL survey method was used for reference to investigate the architectural style, history and culture,micro-space supporting facilities, green area and quality of the block by means of measurement, photo recording, resident interviews, questionnaires and other methods, and summarized the common problems in the current situation,Combined with excellent design cases, the design strategy is generated and applied in this design practice to explore the effective ways and implementation feasibility of the micro-space transformation of historical and cultural blocks. |
