| With the vigorous development of education in our country, the number of kindergarten buildings and the quality of space have been significantly improved. However, due to the strict restrictions on the main functional space of kindergartens and the insufficient area per student, the layout of activity units in kindergartens tends to be homogeneous, making it difficult to respond to the diverse behaviors of children. The corresponding non-functional spaces, such as corridors, courtyard, and roof terraces, have gradually become the focus of architects’ continuous exploration and development in kindergarten design.Based on the empirical research method of environmental behavior, this paper attempts to sort out the relationship between non-functional spaces and children’s behavior patterns through field observations of children’s behavior, interviews with teachers and questionnaire surveys, and proposes targeted design strategies in order to provide Improve the quality of kindergarten architectural space, better adapt and promote the development of children’s behavior to provide a certain theoretical basis. This paper first sorts out the development process of kindergarten space in my country after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and reveals the influence of teaching models and educational concepts on the non-functional space of kindergartens. In the process of evolution,non-functional space has gradually been paid attention to,and the modern educational concept of child-oriented provides educational environment support for the research and design of non-functional space.Secondly, through relevant literature research and behavior observation, analyze the characteristics of children’s spatial behavior, and classify children’s behavior patterns from three levels of communication level, game state, and natural cognition, and analyze children’s needs for space under different behavior patterns.Third, combining the behavior patterns of young children, through field research and questionnaire surveys,to demonstrate the key elements of non-functional space that affect children’s behavior, and to reveal the specific connection between space and behavior. Finally, specific design strategies are proposed for five types of important non-functional spaces, the general design principles of non-functional spaces are summarized, and part of the research results are applied to practice through an actual project that the author participated in during his postgraduate study.Through the research of this article, the author hopes to provide architects and educators with more perspectives to pay attention to the needs of children, make children the protagonists of architectural stories, and make architectural spaces truly designed for children. |
