Under the boom of sponge city construction, the problem of the lack of aesthetic interest in residential rainwater landscapes has become more acute as cities enter the era of stock renewal development.Previous evaluations of rain rainwater landscapes have mostly focused on runoff performance analysis and optimization of technical measures, while less attention has been paid to the perceptual evaluation of the post-construction environment of residential rainwater landscapes.Based on this, based on the aesthetic connotations of rainwater landscapes from a perceptual perspective, this study analyses the current situation of residential rain rainwater landscape application in the sponge city demonstration areas of Xi’an,establishes a perceptual evaluation index system for residential rainwater landscape, selects typical residential areas for residents’ perceptual evaluation to summarize the real-life problems and proposes targeted optimization design strategies in order to provide reference for future urban sponge settlements at the landscape design level. There are seven chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is the introduction, which clarifies the research reality of the thesis, research questions and significance, relevant research developments, research scope selection, research methodology, and defines the framework for writing this paper. The second chapter is an interpretation of the connotation of the perceived characteristics of residential rainwater landscapes residents, dissecting the concept, constituent elements and aesthetic perception of rainwater landscapes; The design potential of rainwater landscapes from a perceptual perspective is analysed, reflected in the promotion of residents’ sensory experience, functional perception experience, contextual perception experience and ecological health;the perceptible components of rainwater landscapes are analysed, including elements of the natural environment, physical environment, runoff processes and regional humanities;the presentation of residents’ perceptual images of residential rainwater landscapess is analysed, including the characteristics of runoff organisation at the spatial interface, the types of scenes combined with the background elements of the settlement, the behavioural activities of residents and the functional aspirations of different groups.Chapter 3 is the current status of the application of rainwater landscapes in residential areas.Through field research, the current status of rainwater landscapes in typical residential areas is listed, and a typology is used to summarise the basic perceptions of rainwater landscapes in residential areas in terms of scene types, behavioural activities and functional places, and preliminary questionnaires and resident interviews are distributed to summarise the concerns and preferences of residents on the perceived elements of rainwater landscapes.Chapter 4 is the perception evaluation of rainwater landscapes in residential areas of Xi’an.Through the comparison of perception evaluation methods,Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA)was selected as the evaluation method, and the application steps of IPA evaluation method in this study were determined;through the coding analysis of residents’ interview results and principal component factor analysis. The final five target layers and 33 indicator factors were identified;the questionnaire design and three sample selections for the study were determined,200 questionnaires were distributed to each of the three selected settlements, and the indicator factors for the key improvement areas in the IPA quadrant of rainwater landscapes performance in residential areas of Xi’an were derived through data analysis.Chapter 5 presents the optimisation strategies for rainwater landscapess in residential areas of Xi’an.Through problem tracing and interpretation of objectives, three optimisation design strategies are proposed, including three optimisation design strategies to highlight the perceptual experience of rainwater landscapess, improve the spatial participation of rainwater landscapess and reflect the cultural continuity of rainwater landscapess.Chapter 6 is the application of the design strategy, selecting scenarios in typical settlements for the practical application of the design strategy.Chapter 7 is the conclusion and outlook, presenting the conclusions, innovations, research shortcomings and future development trends of this study. The conclusions of this study include the following three points:(i)the connotation characteristics of the aesthetic perception of rainwater landscapes in residential areas are explained;(ii)the perception evaluation index system of rainwater landscapes in residential areas is established by means of coding and principal component factor analysis;(iii)three optimal design strategies for rainwater landscapes in residential areas are proposed based on the results of IPA evaluation analysis.
