| The rapid urbanization process has brought about the expansion of motorized transportation, but walking is ignored in today’s fast-paced life.Commercial streets have dense pedestrian flow and frequent walking activities. Therefore, improving the quality of walking environment is of great significance for enhancing the overall image of the city and enhancing the happiness of citizens. The theory of affordance was proposed by American psychologist Gibson, emphasizing the interaction and relationship between people and the environment, which is in line with the concerns in the field of environmental design. However, there is relatively little research on the application of affordance theory in the field of environmental design. Therefore, this article attempts to explore a new perspective and method for evaluating and improving the pedestrian environment of commercial streets from the perspective of affordance. This thesis interprets existing research results such as the theory of affordance, pedestrian environment in commercial streets, and public space design theory, and demonstrates the applicability of affordance theory in the field of environmental design.According to the types and needs of pedestrian activities in the environment, the characteristics of pedestrian activities in commercial streets are analyzed, and the affordance is divided into four categories: functional, sensory, cognitive, and socio-cultural affordance,Through on-site research, the occurrence and quality of affordance in commercial streets were analyzed, and the six environmental elements that have a significant impact on affordance performance in commercial streets were summarized as "shops","plants","small sculptures and entertainment facilities","seats","roads",and "vehicles".Subsequently, the accuracy of the evaluation results was verified through questionnaire research and interviews, using data from the subjective perspective of pedestrians,And analyzed the differences in the impact of environmental factor affordance on different age and gender groups.Subsequently,a material field affordance model was introduced, and the specific interaction problems and interaction relationships that need to be improved in each street were analyzed using the spatial entity interaction matrix.Taking Hefei Women’s Street as an example, multiple optimization plans were proposed for each environmental element, and all optimization plans were verified one by one in the spatial entity selection matrix. The optimal optimization plan for each element was obtained, and the functional layout, traffic flow lines Specific optimization measures have been proposed for Hefei Women’s Street from various aspects such as environmental factor allocation. The research focus of this thesis is to integrate the theory of affordance into the evaluation and optimization design process of commercial street space, construct an overall research framework, and propose design strategies.Although some studies have applied the theory of affordance to the evaluation and design of public spaces such as parks and squares, the research on its application to the design of streets and other types of public spaces is relatively lacking. This study can enrich the research content of the theory of affordance in the field of landscape Garden design design, and provide ideas and references for subsequent related research. |
