The acceleration of urbanization has resulted in people living in high-pressure urban lifestyles for extended periods of time.As a result,an increasing number of urban residents aspire to a peaceful and relaxing lifestyle in rural areas to alleviate work and life stress. With the support of national policies, the promotion of rural leisure industries has provided new opportunities and avenues for rural economic development. Therefore,a large number of rural homestays led by architects have emerged, mainly concentrated in economically developed areas with rich tourism resources. In addition to economically developed regions, the development of homestays in western rural areas has practical potential due to their rich cultural and tourism resources. Therefore, this paper selected Shi Zhu,Chongqing,a Tu Jia ethnic area with historical and cultural connotations,as the main research object, proposing a "study on the application of Tu Jia traditional residential forms in rural homestay design".This research used interdisciplinary research methods, including literature review, case analysis, online and offline surveys and interviews, and questionnaires,to explore two aspects from the perspective of Tu Jia local cultural elements and rural characteristics. On one hand, the author conducted on-site investigations of existing Tu Jia traditional residential houses in Jin Ling Township,Zhong Yi Township, and Shi Jia Township in Shi Zhu,analyzed and summarized them in terms of their layout and construction techniques, and identified the traditional architectural elements of Tu Jia residential houses. The research then applied these elements to the design principles and strategies of rural homestays. On the other hand, this research attempted to introduce traditional handicraft workshops to continue Tu Jia culture and use the potential resources of rural areas to enable guests to experience Tu Jia culture and appreciate rural characteristics through handicraftmaking and related activities, based on data review and field investigations.Based on the above research, this paper positions the design of the "Bu She Jie Dong Shui Homestay" project in Chongqing, guided by principles of adaptability, sustainability, and rural revitalization. The aim is to address the problem of the gradual disappearance of Tu Jia culture and leverage local culture and rural advantages to make a significant contribution to the protection and continuation of traditional culture.
