This article explores the feasibility and necessity of in situ design for the renewal of rural idle public buildings, comprehensively sorts out the problems of rural idle public buildings in China, explains the relevant concepts of rural idle public buildings and in situ design, further improves the strategic methods of in situ building design, and fully pays attention to the impact of diverse subjects on rural public building design,Intended to provide new ideas and entry points for the design of idle public buildings in rural areas.By combining architectural design with local cultural,environmental,socio-economic and other factors, the goal of meeting the new usage needs of rural idle public buildings and improving the quality of life of residents is achieved. As a highly concerned design concept, local design provides a design method to solve the relationship between architecture and "land","culture","technology",and "people",which is of great significance for the renewal of rural public idle buildings. The No.1 Document of the Communist Party of China in 2022 requires rural construction to adhere to the principles of adapting to local conditions and involving farmers. The true humanistic style, social customs, living conditions, material skills and other cultural characteristics of rural areas,as well as the main role of villagers, are crucial for rural construction. In the process of application and development, local design takes the path of improving specific natural sites, human culture, and construction technology in rural areas as one of the important strategies for building modern rural areas. This article proposes four local design strategies: firstly, natural regression: the native response to geographical and climatic conditions, and the appropriate response to the current situation of the site and buildings;Secondly, humanistic care: the construction of humanistic and rural spaces.Thirdly,on-site construction:improvement and implantation of techniques, application of local and new materials, and utilization of building ecology;Fourthly, the role of diverse entities represented by villagers in the local design and construction of rural public buildings.Based on the participation of the author’s design team in the Xinlian Village Villager Activity Center project in Jiaxing City,Zhejiang Province, the feasibility and necessity of integrating local design into the renewal of rural idle public buildings were verified in detail.Attention was paid to the real needs of villagers, which sparked new thinking among architects and relevant practitioners on rural idle public buildings and provided theoretical guidance for the renewal design of rural idle public buildings.
