A Study On The Strategy Of Remaining Space Activation In Marginal Residential Areas Of Hohhot City Based On PSPL Survey Method

With the acceleration of urbanization in China,the urban fringe continues to expand to the surrounding areas,and the geographical structure forms a transitional zone between rural and urban areas-urban fringe areas,including undeveloped and unconstructed marginal settlements with residential life as the main function.There is an urban surplus space that has not been reasonably planned in the marginal residential area,showing idle,abandoned and deformed.In the context of China ’s current urban renewal,such residual space has potential value and should be activated by reasonable strategies.The study of such space needs to be based on comprehensive and detailed research.The PSPL research method is the " public space-public life " research method,which is the main method for Jan Gehl to carry out the research of " public space and public life relationship " and to guide the design.It combines qualitative and quantitative analysis to provide a scientific basis for the design and renovation of public space,with the goal of meeting the needs of public life and improving the urban environment.Therefore,it is scientific and applicable to apply the PSPL research method to the activation of the remaining space of urban fringe settlements.Based on the comprehensive summary of the research status of urban fringe settlements and surplus space at home and abroad,this paper investigates the distribution,shape,space quality,surrounding environment and detailed investigation of the remaining space of representative fringe settlements in Hohhot by PSPL survey method,classifies them according to the distribution location,evaluates their potential utilization value,and transforms them into visual graphic language;combined with the relevant theories of urban renewal and practical cases,this paper puts forward the activation strategy suitable for the remaining space of urban fringe settlements,so as to improve the environmental quality of marginal settlements and improve the public life of residents.From the perspective of architecture and urban design,this paper tries to explore the urban renewal methods which are conducive to public communication,meeting the needs of life,stimulating the vitality of marginal settlements and narrowing the gap between urban areas.Finally,a typical marginal residential area in Hohhot is selected for design and application,which provides professional thinking and suggestions for the improvement of human settlements in urban marginal settlements.This paper applies the scientific and rigorous ’ public space-public life ’ research method to the study of the activation strategy of remaining space in specific area,which has practical reference significance for the renewal and improvement of the living environment in urban fringe of China.
